Advances in Ecology Research on Integrated Rice Field Aquaculture in China

Integrated rice field aquaculture, a practice normally used by rural small-scale farmers, is not only supporting farms and livelihoods but also reducing poverty playing more important role in China. It becoming one of the main freshwater aquaculture systems, addition to ponds, lakes, reservoirs, streams, other systems. During past 40 years, both production areas integrated China have significantly increased from 0.13 million t 0.74 ha 1990 3.25 2.56 2020, respectively. Advances ecology research on rice–fish were contributors this achievement. In paper, we systematically reviewed advances three major systems China, namely rice–fish, rice–crab, rice–crayfish coculture contribution research, future prospects. We found that progress theories, biological studies, models, eco-engineering techniques, coupled with policy support promoted development industries. This review could assist individual farmers make better use space produce safer aquatic products at lower cost help scientists further study
